What do property and casualty insurance agents earn?

BLS puts the median annual wage of insurance sales agents at $62,280 for May 2025, with the 10th percentile at $37,330 and the 90th at $138,140 (BLS OEWS, occupation 41-3021, checked October 8, 2026). BLS reports one occupation for agents in every line, so property and casualty producers are pooled with life and health agents in these figures.

Reading the spread

The mean sits $19,200 above the median. That gap means a smaller group of high earners pulls the average up; for a typical agent, the median is the better single number.

The 90th percentile is about 3.7 times the 10th. The occupation mixes new and veteran agents, captive and independent agencies, salaried and commission-heavy roles, and BLS does not break the figure down along any of those lines. We don't publish commission estimates or job-board averages for that reason.

Pay claims carry their own qualifiers. "Up to" and "top agents earn" describe the upper tail, somewhere near the 90th percentile, and say nothing about the middle.
