Timed P&C mock exam
The P&C mock exam runs against a clock, one item at a time, with every verdict held back until you submit. Then it scores you by coverage line and reopens each item with a note on all four options.
Timed mock: foundations, personal, commercial
0 of 60 answered
Clear the time first. The clock does not pause, and leaving the page loses the attempt.
- 60 items, 60 minutes on the clock. It starts when you press Start.
- No verdicts while the clock runs. Mark an answer, move on, come back through the item numbers.
- Submit when you are done; the clock submits for you at zero. Then every item opens with its notes.

- Item 01Commercial property
After a loss under CP 00 10, the insured must do all of the following EXCEPT
- AProtecting the property from further damage is a listed CP 00 10 duty after loss, so it cannot be the EXCEPT answer.
- BSubmitting to examination under oath is a listed CP 00 10 duty after loss, so it cannot be the EXCEPT answer.
- CNotifying the police when a law may have been broken is a listed CP 00 10 duty after loss, so it cannot be the EXCEPT answer.
- DCorrect: the form requires prompt notice, not repair estimates first, and holding off notice to collect estimates would breach the prompt-notice duty.
- Item 02Principles of insurance
A windstorm tears the shingles off a roof that was already in poor repair. The windstorm is BEST described as the:
- AThe roof's poor repair is the physical hazard; the windstorm is what actually caused the damage.
- BRisk is the uncertainty of loss, not the event that causes it.
- CAn exposure is the property or activity open to loss (here, the roof), not the cause.
- DCorrect: a peril is the cause of loss, and the windstorm is what tore off the shingles.
- Item 03Property insurance basics
Cathy insures buildings at four sites under a single blanket limit of $4,000,000, and her coinsurance requirement is met. A fire destroys one building worth $1,200,000. How much can she recover?
- A$960,000 applies an 80% coinsurance factor even though the stem says the requirement is met, so no penalty applies.
- B$1,000,000 splits the blanket limit evenly by site, which is how specific limits work, not blanket.
- C$4,000,000 is the whole blanket limit, but recovery can never exceed the actual $1,200,000 loss.
- DCorrect: one blanket limit covers all sites, so the full $1,200,000 loss is paid out of the $4,000,000.
- Item 04Commercial auto
A salesperson's laptop is stolen from a locked company car that has comprehensive coverage under a business auto policy. The laptop is:
- AComprehensive covers the auto and its equipment, not loose personal property riding in it, so 'theft' alone doesn't bring the laptop in.
- BCorrect: business auto physical damage excludes electronic equipment that is not permanently installed, so the laptop belongs under property or inland marine coverage.
- CTheft of the whole car still would not cover a portable laptop, because the exclusion turns on the item, not on how it was taken.
- DA locked car doesn't matter; the laptop is excluded because it isn't permanently installed equipment.
- Item 05Insurers and regulation
An insurer declines an auto application because of information in the applicant's consumer report. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the insurer must:
- AFCRA puts a notice duty on the insurer; no commissioner approval is needed to decline an applicant.
- BCorrect: when a consumer report drives an adverse action, FCRA requires telling the applicant the reporting agency's name and address so they can get and dispute the report.
- CFCRA does not require deleting the report, and deleting it would not help the consumer dispute errors.
- DThe insurer must disclose the report source, not its underwriting rules.
- Item 06The insurance contract
On an auto insurance application, Maria states that she drives 30 miles to work each day, believing it to be true. Her statement is:
- ACorrect: a representation is a statement the applicant believes true, and it voids coverage only if false and material.
- BA promissory warranty guarantees a future condition will be maintained; Maria is answering about present facts.
- CConcealment is staying silent about a material fact, but Maria gave an answer she believes is true.
- DA waiver is giving up a known right, which has nothing to do with an applicant's answer.
- Item 07Personal auto policy
Kate and her insurer disagree about the actual cash value of her totaled car. Under the PAP, how can the amount be settled?
- AThe PAP uses arbitration for uninsured motorists disputes, not for a disagreement over the value of a Part D loss.
- BNo PAP condition makes Kate sue within 60 days to settle the amount; the dispute goes to appraisal.
- CThe insurer's figure isn't final; the appraisal condition exists precisely so the insured can challenge it.
- DCorrect: under the PAP appraisal condition either party may demand appraisal, and agreement of any two of the two appraisers and the umpire is binding.
- Item 08Personal auto policy
In a state automobile insurance plan (assigned risk plan), drivers who can't find coverage in the voluntary market are:
- AA single state-run fund describes a monopolistic state fund, not an assigned risk plan.
- BCeding the risk to a pooled facility is a reinsurance facility, a different residual-market mechanism.
- CCorrect: an automobile insurance plan assigns hard-to-place drivers to insurers in proportion to each insurer's share of the state's auto premium.
- DA joint underwriting association has servicing insurers write the policies while all insurers share losses, which is a different mechanism.
- Item 09Inland and ocean marine
All of the following are implied warranties in an ocean marine policy EXCEPT:
- ACorrect: arrival by a set date is not an implied warranty; delays are a normal voyage risk that would have to be written in as an express term.
- BSeaworthiness is one of the three implied ocean marine warranties, so it cannot be the EXCEPT answer.
- CLegality of the voyage is one of the three implied ocean marine warranties, so it cannot be the EXCEPT answer.
- DNo deviation from the intended route is one of the three implied ocean marine warranties, so it cannot be the EXCEPT answer.
- Item 10Workers compensation
After a work injury, an employer voluntarily promises to keep paying the injured employee's full salary instead of the lower statutory benefit. Under the workers compensation policy, the extra payments are:
- APart Two is employers liability for lawsuits for damages, not a pot for voluntary wage payments.
- BCorrect: Part Four bars the employer from voluntarily making payments or assuming obligations except at its own cost.
- CPart One pays only the benefits the workers compensation law requires, not extra salary the employer chose to promise.
- DThe state maximum weekly benefit caps statutory benefits; it doesn't turn voluntary payments into reimbursable ones.

How long the real thing runs
Each state sets its own clock. Texas allows 150 minutes for its combined exam (Pearson VUE Texas handbook) and Florida 3 hours for the 2-20 (Pearson VUE Florida handbook), both checked October 8, 2026. Limits for the rest of the states we checked are on the P&C exam time limits by state page.
This mock is shorter than every combined P&C exam we checked, by design: it covers only the general block that the P&C study guide lays out, and a short sitting is easier to repeat. It reports a plain percent right; how that sits against your state's mark is on the P&C passing score by state page.
Reading your score by line
| Weakest line | Start with | Then |
|---|---|---|
| Foundations | The insurance contract, the largest foundations part | Principles of insurance and insurers and regulation |
| Personal lines | Homeowners insurance | The personal auto policy, then the dwelling policy |
| Commercial lines | Commercial property and general liability | Workers compensation and the businessowners policy |
Clock and retakes
Can I pause the clock?
No. Once you press Start the clock runs to zero, and closing or reloading the page ends the attempt with nothing saved. Set aside the full time before you begin.
Does Take it again show the same items?
Yes, so a second score partly measures memory. Work the coverage part your misses point to, then come back after a few days; for fresh mixed items in between, use the property and casualty practice test. The P&C study plan schedules the mock for you. Waiting periods for the real exam are a different matter, set out in the retake rules by state.
